W. Monks (Longridge) Ltd
Three generations on, still a family firm.

About W. Monks

W. Monks was founded in Longridge in the 1930s by the late William Monks. Nearly a century later, we’re still a family run building contractors in Lancashire, building across the North West from the same town we started in.
Our Story

A name that’s meant the same thing for ninety years.

William Monks started the firm in the 1930s. The work has changed, from post-war building to today’s school extensions, healthcare schemes and bespoke joinery, but what the name stands for hasn’t. Quality work, fair dealing, and finishing what we start.

We’re based on the Hacking Hobbs Estate in Longridge, where our yard and fully-equipped joinery workshop sit side by side. From here we deliver contracts of up to 1 million pounds across Lancashire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester and Merseyside.

Most of our 38-strong team are tradespeople: builders, joiners, electricians, plasterers and apprentices. Many joined straight from school and have stayed twenty years or more. Read more about our credentials here.

What we stand for

How we work as family building contractors in Lancashire.

01

Family Run, Properly

Three generations of the Monks name. Decisions are made by the people whose name is on the gate, not a distant board.
02

Our own trades

Builders, joiners, NICEIC electricians and plasterers in-house. Fewer subcontractors, tighter programmes, one firm accountable.
03

People who stay

Tradesmen with 20+ years’ service, and an active apprenticeship training the next generation the right way.
04

Safe as standard

CSCS Gold across the workforce, SMTS site managers, and a founding member of the Preston Construction Safety Association.

Training & people

Growing our own.

Skilled trades don’t appear overnight. That’s why we run an active apprenticeship programme across bricklaying, joinery, plastering and electrical, bringing young people into the firm and training them on real projects, alongside tradesmen who’ve been here for decades.

It’s the same reason we were recognised as Investors in People back in 2009: our people are the business.

  • Apprenticeships in bricklaying, joinery, plastering & electrical
  • 20+ year tenures across the trades
  • Investors in People accredited since 2009
  • Ongoing training: scaffold, asbestos awareness, site safety
